Attending the "26th Session of the TECRO-AIT Sanitary-Phytosanitary and Agricultural Standards Working Group Consultations."
(6) Promoting international marketing of agriproducts
To improve the export competitiveness of agriproducts, the COA put in place a three- tier quality control system for fruit for export. We also created an "export crop production and supply chain platform," divided into three sections: (i) Supply under existing contracts; (ii) Offer to supply: Group suppliers; and (iii) Offer to supply: Individual suppliers. The COA also invited businesses from production areas and that export agriproducts to select 23 agriculture and food crops with export potential, and assisted them to construct (or install) complete fruit and vegetable production-and-marketing facilities (or equipment).
In addition, in 2019 the COA (i) guided domestic industry associations and farmers’ organizations to participate in overseas exhibitions 11 times; (ii) held 28 overseas activities to advertise or develop markets for agriproducts; (iii) invited overseas trading companies to visit Taiwan 11 times; (iv) established two overseas long-term exhibition and sales centers for agriproducts; and (v) carried out the "Agricultural Product Exporters Brand Counseling Project," a project to guide brands in packaging their products for export.
Also, the COA attended the "26th Session of the TECRO-AIT Sanitary-Phytosanitary and Agricultural Standards Working Group Consultations," signing a work plan with the US for the export of fresh guavas to that country, marking a major milestone for the export of Taiwan agriproducts to the US.
In 2019, the value of agriproduct exports from Taiwan was NT$172.6 billion, an increase of 4.8% over the previous year, again setting a new record for exports. There was remarkable
growth in exports of fresh fruit, rice, tea, flowers, and seafood raised by aquaculture, and Taiwan for the first time exported guavas to the United States (becoming the first country in Asia to do so).
(7) Expanding opportunities for agriproducts exportation and overseas implementation of technology
With a view to increasing the visibility of Taiwan agriproducts and technology services, highly competitive Taiwanese firms were selected to participate in the "Taiwan Pavilion" organized by the COA to demonstrate their
COA Minister Chen Chi-chung at the "Special Area for Taiwan Agricultural Products," set up in a supermarket in Singapore to promote Taiwan rice and food products.
The COA worked with the Seibu Lions of the Nippon Professional Baseball league to advertise Taiwan bananas in hopes of enlarging the number of consumers among the younger generation in Japan.
