In terms of digital services, the COA coordinated the work of a technology R&D team to construct a smart imaging system. Managers can use the website and mobile devices to check on insect pest numbers and environmental information like temperature and humidity. There is automated detection of pests through images and an identification rate of 90%, and users of this system can get up-to-the-minute information about pests in greenhouses.
(3) Promoting commercialization and valorization of agrotechnology R&D results
In 2019, measures were continually taken to strengthen industrial applications of R&D results. For example, the COA collaborated with other government agencies to organize the "Sustainable Development Pavilion" at the Taiwan Innotech Expo. In 2019, a total of 308 technologies were successfully transferred (144 new cases), which generated NT$95.35 million in earnings. In addition, 37 agricultural technology development projects were implemented through around NT$90 million in grants and these have already driven related investment and generated 4.49 times the output. Furthermore, the COA held the first- ever "National Agricultural Science Award," the
highest national honor for agricultural science research. In the 5 categories, 85 research teams were recommended and 17 were rewarded with funding for their achievements. Among them, the edamame industrial team was recognized as most outstanding based on its contribution to export promotion.
