actions, and conducted 2,577 investigations. Among these investigations, 62 illegal slaughtering cases were uncovered, and seven head of livestock, 31.1 kilograms of livestock meat, 1,337 poultry birds, and 17 kilograms of poultry meat were destroyed.
(5) Promoting traceability systems for various agriproducts
The COA has promoted the use of signage for the "Domestic Fresh Pork Traceability System." Consumers can use the eight-digit traceability code on the signs to search for the date on which the pig was sold wholesale, the wholesale market, and the farm of origin; the coverage rate reached 86% in 2019. The "Taiwan Beef Traceability System" can provide consumers with searchable data on the farm of origin, the slaughterhouse, and the butchering factory, making it easier to differentiate domestic from imported beef.
The COA has also promoted the "Domestic Fresh Poultry Meat Tracing Platform," and has required the attaching of egg traceability labels to the outside of the containers used for non- packed eggs sold on the market. These make it possible to find the farm of origin. Since the comprehensive launch of the "Domestic Fresh Poultry Meat Tracing Platform" in 2017, as of the end of 2019 the coverage rate for traceability of domestic fresh poultry meat reached 90%.
In addition, Paragraph 4 of Article 32 of the "Animal Industry Act" requires slaughterhouses

to clearly label animal carcasses and viscera which have passed inspection with a label indicating (i) that they meet the standards for a slaughterhouse sanitation inspection, (ii) the identity number of the slaughterhouse, and (iii) the date of slaughtering. Only with such a label can the animal carcasses and viscera be transported out of the slaughterhouse. Moreover, in coordination with the trial implementation by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of the Executive Yuan of the program to "promote voluntary labeling of the date of slaughtering of chicken meat," the COA will issue a sufficient quantity of new labels to slaughtering businesses that need to change their labeling, with the quantity depending upon the actual number of poultry slaughtered and the format of their packaging.
In 2019 the COA worked to expand the "Taiwan Seafood Production Traceability System," strengthen responsible self-management by producers, introduce the dining concept of "enjoy food fresh where it is produced," promote "local production, local consumption," and increase citizens’ acceptance of domestic seafood products. We combined this Traceability System with information systems, so that consumers can swipe the product QR Code right where the product is sold to immediately get information about the producer. Through 2019 we had guided 1,030 producers to get QR Codes, covering 69 different products, with production volume of about 30,900 metric tons.
